Dr. Harold E. Banser, 84, of Peru, passed away, Tuesday, September 18, 2012 at Manor Court of Peru.
Funeral Services will be held 10 a.m. Saturday, September 29, 2012 at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Peru with Rev. Timothy Kenyon, pastor officiating. Private burial will follow at St. Paul Lutheran Cemetery in Montgomery, IL. Visitation will be held from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Friday, September 28, 2012 at the church. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Mueller Funeral Home, Peru.
Dr. Banser was born July 6, 1928 in Crete, IL to Henry and Alma (Saller) Banser. He married Muriel Ploetz on June 10, 1950 in Aurora. She passed away September 23, 1995. He attended Concordia Teachers College in River Forest, IL and went on to peruse his Masters degree at Northwestern University. He was the Superintendent of LaSalle Elementary Schools until retirement. He was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church, Peru, Peru Lions Club and was the founder of the Excellence Foundation for LaSalle Schools.
He is survived by 3 daughters, Nancy (Daniel) Shaffer, South Windsor, CT, Michele (Glenn) Fairbanks of Highland Park, IL and Kim (Michael) Vezzetti of Peru; 7 grandchildren, Danny, Amanda and Timothy Shaffer, Alicia Hughes, Johnny and Nina Vezzetti and Kevin Fairbanks; two great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Muriel; and one brother, Hank Banser.
Pallbearers will be Dan Shaffer, Tim Shaffer, John Vezzetti, Kevin Fairbanks, and Jack Hughes.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be directed to St. John’s Lutheran Church in Peru or LaSalle Excellence Foundation.
